A couple times a year we get reports of coyote sightings in Shadow Woods. The coyotes are generally just passing through to more protected areas, but everyone should be famliar with these safety tips from Oakland County:
Never approach or touch a coyote Never intentionally feed a coyote Eliminate all outside food sources, especially pet foods Put garbage out the morning of pickup day Clear out wood and brush piles; they are good habitat for rats and mice, and may attract coyotes Never allow pets to roam free when coyotes are present Keep cats indoors at all times Always walk your dog on a leash and accompany them outside Never try to run away from a coyote If a coyote approaches you, throw rocks or sticks to frighten it away
